A breakdown of curator led work and event programming details
Ever since the late 1990s I've been a curator, booker, programmer. Initially bringing world class musical talent to the Sub Club in Glasgow. Over a decade I curated my own event Kinky Afro and welcomed legends such as Thomas Fehlmann, Rhythm & Sound, Knox Om Pax, Hudson Mohawke, `Actress, Radioactive Man, Apparat, Tadd Mullinix, Octave One, Toddla T, Benga, Twitch, Jackmaster, Andrew Weatherall and Matthew Herbert - to name just a few.
In the mid Noughties I did a lot of programming at Clash Magazine for a variety of events - both as Clash showcases and festival stages as well as a lot of branded events. Showcases I booked over a few years included SXSW talent showcases including names like Mick Jones of the Clash, Plan B, Juliette Lewis, Gallows and many more lost to time. I booked a Big Chill stage, designed by cartoonist Pete Fowler in 2010 which featured luminaries such as Liars, Caribou, Steve Mason, the Mystery Jets and Bonobo all nailing their sets. Other festivals I had the pleasure of curating festival stages at include: Iceland Airwaves, Benicassim, Rockness and Lovebox London.
From 2015 until 2018 I worked as The Head of Music at Secret Cinema, bringing talent into the immersive heart of our narrative worlds. Talent was often DJ led for afterparties including names like Goldie, Simian Mobile Disco, Groove Armada, Plaid, Richard Norris, Egyptian Lover and Jamie Jones. There were many many more besides these. We also had the opportunity to bring Jarvis Cocker and the Noisettes to Moulin Rouge to play live sets on the main stage.
In 2024 I was tasked by new arts organisation called Sage & Jester to programme a series of four thought leader events aimed to tackle misinformation and manipulation.
